Quick Guidelines/Current Needs

MindFlights publishes science fiction and fantasy (including all its sub-genres). All submissions to MindFlights must have a SF&F element.

MindFlights is a family-friendly, Christian-friendly market. Thus we prefer stories without excessive or explicit profanity, sexual content, etc.

We only accept submissions via our online form.

No simultaneous submissions. We do not want to see any submissions that are currently under consideration at another market.

Multiple submissions are okay, but please submit each work separately and do not submit more than three works at a time.

We will consider reprints but strongly prefer previously unpublished works. We rarely accept reprints, and then only if they are exceptional in both quality and fit. Please note that if a work is publicly available on the Internet, it is considered previously published.

Payment is 1/2 cent per word with a minimum or $5 and a maximum of $25.

We have no word length requirements. However, we prefer submissions under 5000 words. Submissions over 7000 words are considered VERY long. Longer stories must be of exceptional quality. We do not consider novel-length works.

We only want stand-alone stories, not submissions that are excerpts of larger works.

Our response time is usually about 3-4 weeks.

We are currently full for fiction through September. So rather than accumulate a huge overstock or have to pass on stories we like, we will be closing to fiction submissions beginning June 1st. (We plan to resume taking fiction submissions on/about August 1st.)

We still need poetry and cover art, and will continue to take submissions in those categories year-round.

We are temporarily closed to fiction submissions. We are still taking poetry submissions. We plan to re-open to fiction submissions on/about August 1st.

Fiction works already submitted (prior to June 1st) will still be considered for publication.

FYI...

Our response time is currently running a little longer than usual, about 4-6 weeks instead of the 3-4 we aim for.

Please feel free to email or PM if you're ever concerned about the status of your submission. You can also check your submission's status by logging into Contributors Tools.

Also, we are accepting fewer works than we have previously. Currently we are only seeking 2 poems, 2 stories, and 1 cover art per monthly issue.
