M. Keaton - what a powerfully emotive story. The images you 'paint' are vivid and engaging. This is an intriguing piece of flash fiction that ends in tragedy, but leaves the reader with a message of hope. Hard to tie those together, but this story does just that. Congratulations on having this published.
